May 25-June 10

My next exhibition of paintings opens at GALLERY PUNDOLE, Mumbai on May 25.

This is eventful. I was diagnosed with cancer two months ago and I am still under treatment. Of course, this doesn't prevent me from attending my own show. My health is unlikely to worsen because of it.

Way back, in September 1969, I had my first one-man show of paintings in GALLERY RAMPART, Rampart Row, Mumbai. Then in December 1975, I had my second show at the Museum of Modern Art, University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA. Then my painter friend Bhaskar Hande took some of my works around Europe along with the works of other artists from 1985 to 1988.

I moved to Pune in 1985. There I joined a group of younger local artists called Friends of Visual Arts. I showed my works in group shows.

I have been fortunate to sell my work regularly at good prices. But even if I didn't, I would go on painting. I've been at it since I was a child and by now it is part of my nature.

  1. You are welcome to the preview on May 25.

Vaishalli Narkar and Sanjeev Khandekar have curated the show.

Dadiba Pundole encouraged them on their 'find'.

The Pundole Art Gallery is one of the oldest in Bombay. Started in 1963 by Kali Pundole it featured seminal artists such as Akbar Padamsee and J. Swaminathan. I reviewed their shows for the magazine QUEST.

My show features my most recent work. It is called THE BLACK AMONG ALL THE COLOURS. Vaishalli Narkar has painstakingly prepared a catalogue that will be on sale. If you can't buy a painting, it is a good substitute as an introduction to my oeuvre.
